Aim:

The Center for Global Studies (CGS), Seijo University, will co-host the following event with the Faculty of Law, Seijo University, as part of the “glocal studies” (studies on the phenomenon of glocalization, which occurs through the simultaneous and mutual interaction of the forces of globalization and localization) program that the center is advocating and promoting. It is a lecture titled “V?lkervertragsrecht in der parlamentarischen Demokratie: Umfassende Freihandelsvertr?ge als Herausforderung für die parlamentarische Demokratie” (International Treaties in Parliamentary Democracy: The Challenge of Comprehensive Free-Trade Agreements to Parliamentary Democracy), given by Dr. Bernd Grzeszick, a professor at the Faculty of Law, Heidelberg University, Germany.
In Europe, the mutual interactions and tension between EU regulations and member states’ constitutional orders have been debated for some time, raising the legal questions about glocalization at a relatively early stage. In recent years, EU member states’ transfer of sovereignty to the EU and the EU’s conclusion of free-trade agreements with non-member states have been a major issue. The aim of this lecture is to help attendees gain insight into the legal state of glocalization through the observations of Dr. Grzeszick, who has made excellent contributions to the study of these issues.
